On June 14 2017, fire broke out in the 24-storey Grenfell Tower block of flats in London. It caused 72 deaths. Subsequent investigation showed it was clad in a particularly flammable material - part of the cost-saving approach used on hundreds of similar towers for low-income residents. Australian developers have been found to have used similar materials, and yet rail against excess “red tape”.
